Miami is the epicenter of the Zombie Apocalypse if you read the blogosphere, but here in the City of Miami we are moving forward after finding the attacker (or so-called zombie) as a “quiet” man who happened to enjoy smoking marijuana, albeit this time with PCP, leading to the horrific accident.
Rudy Eugene – Face-Eating Attacker
Rudy Eugene has been identified as a “quiet” man who aspired to open a mobile car wash business, 31 years old and a resident of North Miami. He wasn’t some crazy killer on the loose.
According to a Miami Herald report:
“Rudy was not not a face-eating zombie monster,” said classmate Victoria Forte. The story of the flesh-eating beast in Miami quickly went viral, as such news-of-the-weird tends to do. But those who knew Eugene say they were stunned to learn of Eugene’s involvement, because the description of the enraged cannibal gunned down in broad daylight bears no resemblance to the person they knew. Friends remember his radiant smile and friendly nature.
“Classmates from Naples, Orlando to Miami cannot get over this,” Forte said. “There’s been an overwhelming response. We are going to do our part as his friends to not let him go down like this. The Rudy we know was a nice gentleman with a warm smile and funny. He’s not like that at all.”
It’s disturbing to read the news regarding this man – he seemed to be a harmless, hardworking, albeit in trouble with the law a few times – and his family and friends are shocked that he could perform such a physically brutal crime.
Ronald Poppo – Victim
The victim, Ronald Poppo, seems like maybe he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. According to reports, Poppo was a regular “resident” under the causeway – reportedly homeless for more than 40 years of his 63 year old life. According to testimony and video surveillance, Eugene happened across Poppo, forced him to disrobe and then proceeded to “eat” at his face.
Poppo was also shot in Bicentennial Park, making him a victim as least a second time. Poppo remains in critical condition at Ryder Medical Center. While no official reports have been made, it would appear by now he has not ‘turned’ into a zombie.
